APPIC Executive Director Responsibilities and Position Description

 

APPIC Mission: To facilitate access, foster development, and support implementation of quality education and training in Health Service Psychology.

 

  1. Policy and Leadership
    1. Develop and implement strategic long- and short-range plans, policies, goals, and objectives independently within the guidelines of APPIC’s Policies & Procedures and APPIC’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
    2. Execute policies at the direction of the APPIC Board.
  2. Administration and Human Resources
    1. Oversee the operation of APPIC’s Office and Professional staff, including performance reviews.
    2. Manage the overall operation of APPIC’s Central Office.
    3. Facilitate administrative support for the APPIC Board, Committees, Board meetings/conferences, and Board liaison activities.
    4. Orient new Board members to their roles, APPIC, and Board procedures annually.
    5. Orient new Committee members to their roles as appropriate.
    6. Make day-to-day administrative decisions necessary to accomplish APPIC’s organizational goals.
  3. External Relations and Communications
    1. Serve as APPIC’s public representative/ambassador with external organizations and individuals, in coordination with the Chair of the APPIC Board.
    2. Maintain effective working relationships with the Chair and Members of the APPIC Board.
    3. Consult with member programs, applicants to membership, and trainees.
    4. Receive, triage, address, and track requests for consultation and complaints.
    5. Foster and maintain relationships and collaborate with APPIC’s constituent groups.
    6. Manage and update APPIC’s website, listservs, newsletter, social media content, and voting process.
    7. Attend APPIC Board meetings as a non-voting party to advise regarding APPIC operations.
    8. Partner with vendors (e.g., Liaison International, Clarity, National Matching Services) to manage their services.
  4. Finance
    1. Lead financial management of APPIC.
    2. Create and maintain an annual budget in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.
    3. Issue reimbursements for costs associated with APPIC business.
    4. Identify steps to expand and collect revenues to ensure future financial stability.
    5. Maintain APPIC’s bank accounts, accounts payable and receivable, and financial records.
    6. Manage monthly payroll and tax reporting for IRS (Internal Revenue Service), ADP (Automated Data Payroll), and the APPIC accountant.
    7. Create monthly reports and monitor the budget against actual expenditures.
  5. Conferences and Meetings
    1. Support conference and meeting planning with external support as necessary.
    2. Maintain APPIC’s Continuing Education status.
    3. Provide recommendations to the Board for conference site selection.
    4. Initiate contract negotiations with the hotel pending final review by the APPIC Board and APPIC attorney.
  6. Organizational Records
    1. Oversee APPIC records and related databases, including membership, dues collection, renewal notices, correspondence, and archival records of APPIC Committees.
    2. Manage APPIC archives.
    3. Review business documents, including insurance, leases, contracts, and non-profit status.
    4. Identify needs for outsourcing of projects, including Information Technology or web-based projects.
