APPIC Executive Director Responsibilities and Position Description
APPIC Mission: To facilitate access, foster development, and support implementation of quality education and training in Health Service Psychology.
- Policy and Leadership
- Develop and implement strategic long- and short-range plans, policies, goals, and objectives independently within the guidelines of APPIC’s Policies & Procedures and APPIC’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Execute policies at the direction of the APPIC Board.
- Administration and Human Resources
- Oversee the operation of APPIC’s Office and Professional staff, including performance reviews.
- Manage the overall operation of APPIC’s Central Office.
- Facilitate administrative support for the APPIC Board, Committees, Board meetings/conferences, and Board liaison activities.
- Orient new Board members to their roles, APPIC, and Board procedures annually.
- Orient new Committee members to their roles as appropriate.
- Make day-to-day administrative decisions necessary to accomplish APPIC’s organizational goals.
- External Relations and Communications
- Serve as APPIC’s public representative/ambassador with external organizations and individuals, in coordination with the Chair of the APPIC Board.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the Chair and Members of the APPIC Board.
- Consult with member programs, applicants to membership, and trainees.
- Receive, triage, address, and track requests for consultation and complaints.
- Foster and maintain relationships and collaborate with APPIC’s constituent groups.
- Manage and update APPIC’s website, listservs, newsletter, social media content, and voting process.
- Attend APPIC Board meetings as a non-voting party to advise regarding APPIC operations.
- Partner with vendors (e.g., Liaison International, Clarity, National Matching Services) to manage their services.
- Finance
- Lead financial management of APPIC.
- Create and maintain an annual budget in collaboration with the Board Treasurer.
- Issue reimbursements for costs associated with APPIC business.
- Identify steps to expand and collect revenues to ensure future financial stability.
- Maintain APPIC’s bank accounts, accounts payable and receivable, and financial records.
- Manage monthly payroll and tax reporting for IRS (Internal Revenue Service), ADP (Automated Data Payroll), and the APPIC accountant.
- Create monthly reports and monitor the budget against actual expenditures.
- Conferences and Meetings
- Support conference and meeting planning with external support as necessary.
- Maintain APPIC’s Continuing Education status.
- Provide recommendations to the Board for conference site selection.
- Initiate contract negotiations with the hotel pending final review by the APPIC Board and APPIC attorney.
- Organizational Records
- Oversee APPIC records and related databases, including membership, dues collection, renewal notices, correspondence, and archival records of APPIC Committees.
- Manage APPIC archives.
- Review business documents, including insurance, leases, contracts, and non-profit status.
- Identify needs for outsourcing of projects, including Information Technology or web-based projects.
