Description: POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY: The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins announce a postdoctoral training position in health psychology/behavioral medicine with an emphasis on research focusing on the role of health behaviors in cancer survivorship. We are now accepting applications for a one-year fellowship to begin in late Summer or Fall of 2018. Second year fellowship opportunities may be possible. The primary goal of the fellowship is to prepare individuals for an academic career in behavioral medicine and health psychology. The position will provide clinical psychology training in a clinical research environment focused on the application of behavioral medicine/health psychology techniques in adult cancer survivors, with an emphasis on obesity and sleep disorders. The position will offer up to 60% of clinical activity primarily at the Breast Cancer clinics at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, a state-of-the-art facility with world-renowned multidisciplinary teams of medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and other specialists. Clinical opportunities through the Obesity Behavioral Medicine and Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program can also be offered. The remaining 40% of activity will be spent on behavioral medicine research projects pertaining to sleep and obesity and manuscript development from archival data. The relative balance of clinical to research hours may be arranged with the primary supervisors for this fellowship, Janelle Coughlin, PhD, and Vered Stearns, MD. Clinical hours will be supervised hours, consistent with requirements for state licensure in psychology.

Submission Instructions

To be considered, applicants must have completed all Ph.D. or PsyD graduation requirements in Clinical Psychology or a related field from an APA accredited program by the time the fellowship starts. Preference will be given to candidates with strong research interests and potential who have accrued substantial clinical experience in health psychology and/or behavioral medicine, with training in the research and management of obesity and sleep disorders. Applicants with additional experience in assessing technology-based behavioral interventions are encouraged to apply. Previous experience in providing behavioral health services to those pursuing bariatric surgery is a plus, as a secondary training opportunity in the psychological evaluation of bariatric surgery patients may be offered. The start date is to be no later than September 1, 2018 but may be earlier. The first year stipend is $47,484 plus benefits, as dictated by NIH fellowship rules.
