Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Forensic Psychology at MMHI and SRSTC
Description: The Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Forensic Psychology at Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) and Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center (SRSTC) offers a one-year specialized training experience in forensic psychology. This fellowship provides advanced training to individuals in forensic mental health work in public sector psychiatric mental institutions. This Post-Doctoral Fellowship has been granted the 5 year waiver of experience by the American Board of Forensic Psychology/ APA. This means that Forensic Fellows can apply for their diplomats in Forensic Psychology after their post-doc, without needing the usual 5 years of additional post-licensure experience. Experiences will include pretrial competency to stand trial evaluations, treatment of individuals deemed incompetent, treatment of individuals adjudicated Not Guilty by Reason of Mental Disease or Defect (NGI), assessment of violence risk, and evaluations and treatment for persons referred or civilly committed as Sexually Violent. Fellows will also participate in clinical risk assessment concerning conditional and supervised release of NGI patients and Sexually Violent Persons. Also, there is opportunity for assessment and treatment of juvenile offenders, thereby offering potential forensic experiences with both juvenile and adult populations. Applied clinical forensic experiences, research, and seminars/educational experiences exist as part of this fellowship.
