2026 APPIC Match - Phase I
Statistics for Applicants from Canadian Schools and Programs in Canada
February 20, 2026
We are pleased to report that 184 applicants from Canadian schools
were matched to an internship position in Phase I of the 2026 APPIC
Match.
A total of 47 applicants who submitted Rank Order Lists were not
matched to an internship position in Phase I, while an additional 12
applicants withdrew or did not submit a Rank Order List. A total of 22
positions in Canada remained unfilled from Phase I.
Over the past two years, the number of registered applicants from Canadian schools has
fluctuated significantly while the number of internship positions in Canada has remained little changed.
Last year, the number of applicants decreased by 35 (197 to 162, or -18%)
as compared to the prior year, while this year the number of applicants increased by 81 (162 to
243, or +50%). As a result, there was a shortage of applicants as compared to positions last year (162 applicants vs. 213 positions), while this year it
appears that there will be a shortage of positions (243 applicants vs. 206 positions).
