APPIC E-MAIL LIST RULES

The following rules apply to all of APPIC's e-mail lists, and subscribing to a list denotes your agreement to abide by these rules as a condition of your subscription:

  1. Do not use the list for illegal or unethical purposes.
  2. Do not interfere with or disrupt other list users, list resources, or network services or equipment.
  3. Do not use the list for commercial purposes.
  4. Do not show disrespect for the points of view of others.
  5. Postings must be related to the general topic and purpose of the list.
  6. APPIC is not responsible for postings on its e-mail lists.

Each list may have additional rules or guidelines. APPIC may remove from the list any list member who does not abide by these rules.

Postings that request participation in research studies must be directly related to the general topic and purpose of the list. It is strongly recommended that you check with the List Manager (see "Need Help?" section, below) in advance to ensure that your posting meets these requirements.

MANAGING YOUR LIST SUBSCRIPTIONS

There are two ways for you to communicate with APPIC's e-mail list server (called "Lyris") in order to manage your list subscriptions:

  1. Sending commands to the server via e-mail.
  2. Using your browser to access a "web interface" to the server.

Specific information about managing your subscription to a list can be found on the information page for that specific list (click here for a description of all APPIC e-mail lists).

POSTING MESSAGES TO A LIST

When posting messages to APPIC's e-mail lists, please remember that attachments to messages are not permitted. This policy helps to prevent the spread of computer viruses via e-mail attachments.

"DIGEST" OPTION

APPIC's "Network" (i.e., discussion) e-mail lists can get quite busy at times and can thus generate a large amount of e-mail. You may use the "Digest" option to greatly reduce the amount of e-mail that you receive from a list. Once you have set the "Digest" option for your subscription to a list, you will receive no more than one e-mail each day from that list that contains all of the messages posted during the previous 24 hours. Using the "Digest" option is a great way to stay involved in an active discussion list without getting flooded with e-mail.

ACCESSING MESSAGE ARCHIVES

Messages that are posted to some APPIC's lists are saved in the archives for a limited period of time.

After clicking on the link below, you will be transferred to the "web interface" for the Lyris e-mail list server. From the initial page, click on the e-mail list that you are interested in reviewing. You must then login using the e-mail address at which you are subscribed to the list and a blank password (the e-mail address at which you are subscribed appears at the end of every message posted to the list). You must be a member of a list in order to review the message archives for that list.

Once you have successfully logged in, you will be taken to a screen that will allow you to review the message archives for the list that you have selected. You may sort the list by clicking the arrows at the top of each column. Some APPIC lists allow you to search the archives for specific key words, using the "Search" tab at the top of the page.

WHICH APPIC LISTS AM I ON?

If you want to know the APPIC lists to which you are subscribed, simply send an e-mail message to lyris@lyris.appic.org with the following two commands on the first two lines of the body of your message:

end

You will receive a return e-mail that lists the APPIC e-mail lists to which you are subscribed.
