Cook County Health (Cermak Health Services) is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health services to the residents at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (CCJTDC) in Chicago, Illinois and is seeking to fill one Postdoctoral Fellowship position for the 2026-2027 training year. The Fellow will be involved in intake screenings, mental health status evaluations, psycho-educational group therapy, individual therapy, mental health rounds, crisis intervention, and consultation. 

Ideal Postdoctoral Fellow candidates will possess good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills with demonstrated efficiency and teamwork within a multidisciplinary staff. The training committee is invested in training mature clinicians with strong boundaries with an interest and/or experience with adolescents with severe behavioral disorders.  Prior experience working with a severely mentally ill or correctional population is desirable. Ideal candidates must be open and receptive to feedback.  Additionally, ideal candidates should have an interest in providing secondary individual supervision/mentorship to externs. Potential candidates must have obtained their doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), to include an APA or Association of Psychology Postdoctoral And Internship Centers (APPIC) accredited internship, prior to the commencement of the fellowship training year. Cook County Health Human Resources requires a letter that verifies the Fellows' successful completion of internship as well as an official graduate transcript to confirm the doctorate degree. If a Fellow is pending graduation, then a letter from the Director of graduate studies confirming completion of all degree requirements will suffice.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship is a full-time, 12-month program, beginning September 2026. The fellows' schedules consist of four 10-hour work days, with one weekend day required. Remote work is not permitted and evening hours may be required. Didactic training and individual and group supervision with licensed clinical psychologists is provided.

Cook County Health maintains a drug-free workplace.  Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug test before the start date.  Additionally, applicants will need to successfully pass a background test (LEADS & CANTS, fingerprinting) and medical clearance including a TB test, Flu shot, COVID vaccination, and ensuring all vaccinations are up to date.  CPR and PREA are mandatory classes that the Fellows need to complete as part of the orientation process.
