The NIH T32 Adherence and Self-Management Fellowship is a two-year training program for Candidates with PhD, MD/DO, or comparable degrees who are interested in research and/or program development related to adherence and self-management. The program is housed in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and is funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) (Directors: Kevin Hommel, Ph.D.; kevin.hommel@cchmc.org and Meghan McGrady, Ph.D. meghan.mcgrady@cchmc.org).

All fellows are paired with a primary mentor who complements their interests and skills. Each of our faculty have a strong track-record of publishing, obtaining external grant support, program development, and mentoring trainees. CCHMC is one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country with a reputation for excellence and innovation in clinical care, teaching, and research. CCHMC is ranked among the top in the nation on the Honor Roll Hospitals by the US News & World Report and among medical centers in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. In addition, this fellowship position is part of a larger network of Psychology Fellowships at CCHMC, which is one of the nation's largest fellowship training programs in pediatric/child psychology, with associated didactic and professional development training. 

CCHMC requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, proof of vaccination will be required. Exceptions for the COVID-19 vaccination requirement may be granted for approved medical contraindications or religious prohibitions. Learn more about this requirement

Applicants must have completed all doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD) requirements by the start of fellowship. Applicants who have not completed their dissertation at the time of application, must successfully defend their dissertation at least 60 days prior to beginning fellowship. Candidates who do not meet this deadline may forfeit their fellowship position.

All candidates should be from a graduate program in clinical, counseling, or school psychology, accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and must be from an APA-accredited internship program. Experience with children is required. 

Stipends are consistent with NIH NRSA stipend levels. Cincinnati Children's Psychology Fellowship stipend levels for the 2025-2026 training year are $62,232 for a first-year fellow and $62,652 for a second-year fellow, consistent with standards dictated by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Cincinnati Children’s offers individual health insurance plans; all require minimal financial contribution from the fellow. Fellows have 15 days a year of paid time off, 5 professional/educational days, and 9 pre-set holidays, as well as sick leave and parental leave. Additional leave may be granted for other workshops or conference attendance as deemed appropriate by fellowship mentor(s). Fellows will each have an allowance designated for professional/educational conference, travel, and/or EPPP testing fees. Additionally, a one-time relocation allotment of $3,000 will be provided to incoming fellows who are moving to Cincinnati from 50 miles outside the area. Moves within the Greater Cincinnati area will not be reimbursed. Other benefit plans or programs currently available include medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts, a legal plan, adoption reimbursement, a college savings plan, 403(b) Employee Savings Plan, paid funeral leave, and education assistance.

The program’s start dates will be in early August and September 2026. Candidates may select which start date they prefer once an offer has been made. Although this fellowship position is primarily research-focused, clinical research is a key aspect of the position and applicants with strong clinical experiences, research interests, and scientist-practitioner training are encouraged to apply
