Position Description: 

Great Life Counseling Center (GLCC) provides postdoctoral fellows with a comprehensive one-year* experience in a group practice setting that offers opportunities for specialized training in couples and family psychotherapy, as well as evidence-based individual psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults. Fellows select from a child/adolescent/family focus, adult trauma/couple focus, or a dual training focus. GLCC offers additional training opportunities in child and adult psychological/psychoeducational assessment, group psychotherapy, community outreach, and/or career counseling for interested fellows. Private practice building and marketing trainings are interwoven throughout the training year. 

In addition to receiving two hours of weekly individual supervision and at least one hour of weekly group supervision, the fellows and all GLCC clinicians meet weekly for at least one hour of didactic training and case consultations that address a variety of topics, including couples/family theory, complex clinical case presentations, cultural diversity, ethical considerations, and business issues in private practice. Fellows also participate in a weekly Reflection Team training experience led by a licensed psychologist. Fellows receive informal feedback throughout the year and complete formal evaluations at mid-year and the end of the training year.

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and meets or exceeds stipends provided by APPIC member training programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas geographic region. Illustratively, for the past 3 years, each Great Life Counseling Center Fellow has earned over $60,000 during their first year of training. 

Practice Description: 

Great Life Counseling Center is a group practice in the North Dallas Metroplex. GLCC specializes in couples therapy, child/family issues, relational/emotional trauma, faith and existential exploration, and individual adjustment or life transitions. The group’s mission is ‘to strengthen relationships and enhance lives fostering healthier families and communities.’ Our staff shares a commitment to providing culturally competent care with diverse populations, active involvement in the community, and ongoing pursuit of continued education and development. 

Fringe Benefits:

35 hours/week is the minimum hours required by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for full time postdoctoral fellows and Great Life Counseling Center requires that these hours be provided Monday through Thursday in-person.  At the beginning of each semester, postdoctoral fellows will be able to choose from 6 schedule templates for completing their office hours.  Fridays will also be work days but these will be flex or hybrid days mostly used for catching up on administrative work, studying for the EPPP, and participating in outreach, networking, continuing education, or team events. Psychological Assessments are done on Fridays or Saturdays to avoid disrupting the Monday through Thursday workflow of counseling appointments.

Financial Opportunity: Unlimited earning potential (usually $60-$65k), full team support in growing caseload, and training/guidance on practice building is interwoven throughout

Compensation is $42k base salary plus commission and healthcare benefits, which should amount to at least $60,000 for the year. In addition to first rate office facilities, fellows will enjoy a very positive and supportive learning community, frequent consultation, weekly staff development meetings, 2 hours of supervision per week, opportunity to provide secondary supervision to a practicum student, and training on how to manage a solo practice. Research opportunities
Emphasis will be on clinical development and the application of clinical research to the treatment of individuals, couples, and families. Fellows will have the opportunity to develop clinical skills in the areas of marriage/couples, faith & existential exploration, child/family issues, and individual adjustment or development. Fellows will be encouraged to research interventions and develop workshop presentations to enhance their work with consumers of the center's services.
