This program has chosen to follow the APPIC Postdoctoral Selection Guidelines.
The CWC training program adheres to the American Psychological Association’s profession-wide competency of individual and cultural diversity along with the mental health code of ethics and state laws and rules. We believe that this training is vital to all parts of counselor development and competence and thus, is incorporated into all areas of supervision, training seminars, evaluations, and professional activities. The training program is also committed to cultivating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning by providing clinical postdoc fellows with an appropriate blend of support and challenge. Postdoctoral fellows are treated as early career professionals and as such, are given a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Simultaneously, postdoctoral fellows will receive the professional support necessary to allow for their continued professional development.
Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to fulfill the multiple roles of a university counseling center clinician, which include counseling services (individual, couples, and/or group counseling), assessment, crisis intervention, referral, consultation, outreach, supervision of student trainees, participation in staff meetings and training seminars, and timely completion of necessary administrative functions. Postdoctoral fellows will receive a minimum of 1 hour of face-to-face individual and 1 hour of individual or group supervision weekly and be provided with various professional development opportunities.
The AOD specialization may include screenings, assessments, consultations with students and staff, and both individual and group counseling with students struggling with alcohol and other drug related concerns. Extensive opportunities are also available for campus outreach and collaboration with other campus entities such as GatorWell. The AOD post-docs also have the opportunity to work with the AOD coordinator to assist in program development and expansion of services.
