The CWC training program adheres to the American Psychological Association’s profession-wide competency of individual and cultural diversity along with the mental health code of ethics and state laws and rules. We believe that this training is vital to all parts of counselor development and competence and thus, is incorporated into all areas of supervision, training seminars, evaluations, and professional activities.The training program is also committed to cultivating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning by providing clinical postdoc fellows with an appropriate blend of support and challenge. Postdoctoral fellows are treated as early career professionals and as such, are given a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Simultaneously, postdoctoral fellows will receive the professional support necessary to allow for their continued professional development.

Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to fulfill the multiple roles of a university counseling center clinician, which include counseling services (individual, couples, and/or group counseling), assessment, crisis intervention, referral, consultation, outreach, supervision of student trainees, participation in staff meetings and training seminars, and timely completion of necessary administrative functions. Postdoctoral fellows will receive a minimum of 1 hour of face-to-face individual and 1 hour of individual or group supervision weekly and be provided with various professional development opportunities.

Fellows choosing the Intensive Support specialization will earn QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) certification and perform QPR trainings, participate on the Crisis Response Team, conduct individual and group counseling (e.g., DBT, Survivors of Sexual Assault), and may engage in professional activities with the University Police Department's Behavioral Service's Division. Opportunities to provide on-call/crisis services, obtain external training and experience in crisis and suicide prevention with the Alachua County Crisis Center, provide clinical supervision for the University's housing crisis management services, and assist in program development with the Suicide Prevention Coordinator may also be available.
