The CWC training program adheres to the American Psychological Association’s profession-wide competency of individual and cultural diversity along with the mental health code of ethics and state laws and rules. We believe that this training is vital to all parts of counselor development and competence and thus, is incorporated into all areas of supervision, training seminars, evaluations, and professional activities.

The training program is also committed to cultivating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning by providing clinical postdoc fellows with an appropriate blend of support and challenge. Postdoctoral fellows are treated as early career professionals and as such, are given a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Simultaneously, postdoctoral fellows will receive the professional support necessary to allow for their continued professional development. 

Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to fulfill the multiple roles of a university counseling center clinician, which include counseling services (individual, couples, and/or group counseling), assessment, crisis intervention, referral, consultation, outreach, supervision of student trainees, participation in staff meetings and training seminars, and timely completion of necessary administrative functions. Postdoctoral fellows will receive a minimum of 1 hour of face-to-face individual and 1 hour of individual or group supervision weekly and be provided with various professional development opportunities.

Postdocs choosing the Individual and Cultural Diversity Competency specialization will have the opportunity to work with students identifying with diverse communities in counseling. In addition, there are extensive opportunities to engage in campus outreach and awareness programs, and for collaboration with other campus organizations dedicated to providing a variety of resources for students. Postdocs may also assist the coordinator of CWC's ASPIRE, which supports the wellness, recruitment, retention and time-to-degree graduation of students from underrepresented groups.
