Applicants should have completed (or be near completion of) an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology, with degree conferral prior to the fellowship start date. Program Overview
The ECU Health Medical Center Clinical Health Psychology Fellowship follows a practitioner–scholar model, integrating clinical practice, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The fellowship prepares psychologists for clinical and leadership roles in diverse healthcare environments, emphasizing prevention, treatment, education, and supervision.
Fellows function as valued members of interprofessional teams in inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth settings, gaining comprehensive experience with medical conditions, treatments, and collaborative care. Mentorship, professional role modeling, and consultation are integral components of the program.
Training Structure
This 12-month, 2,080-hour fellowship meets North Carolina licensure requirements for independent practice. Fellows work approximately 45 hours per week (Monday–Friday), with about 50% (20 hours) dedicated to direct clinical service. Training experiences can be customized to align with each fellow’s interests, goals, and career plans.
Fellows provide evaluation and intervention services to rural and underserved populations with a range of chronic medical, psychiatric, and substance use conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Fellows receive a minimum of two hours of individual supervision weekly, with daily faculty contact and mentorship.
Additional educational activities include:
- Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds (annual presentation required)

- Biweekly didactic seminars and weekly case conferences on psychology in medical settings
- Attendance at regional and campus-based educational programs (e.g., NC AHEC, NCPA, ECUHMC)
