Position Summary:
Premier Sport Psychology is pleased to offer a full-time, 2-year postdoctoral sport psychology residency position beginning summer/fall of 2023. The position is designed for an individual who is interested in working as part of a sport psychology company in a variety of settings combining clinical work, performance-enhancement, and outreach with an athletic population. In addition to working within the private practice, the postdoctoral resident can expect to gain experience providing comprehensive sport psychology services within university athletic departments. This position can be considered supervised professional experience under the direction of Minnesota licensed psychologist supervisors. Please note the position is designed to meet the licensure requirements in the state of Minnesota.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide direct individual counseling and mental skills training to athletes
- Facilitate team meetings and team-building activities
- Develop, promote, and lead workshops and presentations to local, regional, or national sport organizations, medical clinics, and/or athletic teams
- Provide clinical supervision to practicum students at PSP
- Conduct outreach to grow new business
- Foster referral relationships
- Participate in business/industrial and organizational side of consulting practice (if interested)
- Participate in case management, business meetings, and professional development activities
- Receive 2 hours of supervision per week
- Other duties as assigned (e.g., content development, workbooks, online coaching resources, administrative activities, etc.)
If interested, residents are able to gain additional experience in site-specific rotations throughout the postdoctoral residency. The site-specific areas are selected and determined by a review of the applicant’s prior experience and postdoctoral goals. The availability of each site-specific rotation will also be determined, in part, upon the needs of Premier Sport Psychology. Some site-specific areas include ADHD/LD assessment that follow NCAA and APA standards and compliance, as well as research and development initiatives involving survey development, report writing, and data analysis.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical/counseling/educational psychology from an accredited institution of higher education
- Completion of APA-accredited internship
- Experience working with student-athletes
- Crisis intervention experience
- Experience providing clinical supervision
- Excellent clinical, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to form and nurture relationships with medical providers, administrators, and coaches
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and collaborative
- Creative and willing to invest in growing a sport psychology practice
- Detail and action-oriented, selfless, has a growth mindset, and ability to work independently in a responsible and professional manner
- Completion of dissertation required prior to commencement of position
- Understanding of and strict adherence to the Minnesota Board of Psychology legal guidelines and American Psychological Association ethical guidelines
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:- Experience working with athletes of all ages across various sports and organizations
- CMPC certification through AASPADHD assessment experience
- Experience working with youth/high school student-athletes, coaches, athletic medicine staff and multidisciplinary treatment teams
- Training in mental performance-related issues
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
