Coastal Therapy Group (CTG) is a community of clinical psychologists providing psychotherapy and assessment in North County San Diego. We are especially seeking applicants who not only bring strong clinical training (Psy.D. or Ph.D. from an accredited institution) but who are also eager to put down roots in North County and contribute meaningfully to the communities here. Our ideal candidate is excited about long-term psychotherapy and self-reflection, and motivated to serve people from all backgrounds with humility and cultural responsiveness. Fellows who thrive at CTG are often those who imagine building their career in a group practice, who value communicating openly with colleagues about triumphs, challenges, and conflicts, and who see themselves growing alongside a team for years to come. Learning to be a better therapist doesn’t stop at the end of formal postdoctoral training—and at Coastal we get that, because we are continuing to learn with and from each other every week.
Fellows are supervised by licensed psychologists, who are influenced most by attachment-based psychodynamic theory, interpersonal and relational psychoanalysis, emotion focused and third wave behavioral approaches, and multicultural perspectives. The fellowship is in a group practice setting and requires a twelve-month commitment from the applicant. After completing your post-doctoral fellowship, you may be offered a position at Coastal Therapy Group as a psychological associate (if not licensed) or licensed psychologist. During your training, you will:
- Learn how to maintain a private-pay psychotherapy caseload
- Deepen and solidify clinical skills in work with long-term psychotherapy cases
- Obtain advanced training in psychological assessment
- Receive support as you prepare for licensure as a psychologist
- Be encouraged in this exciting stage of professional identity development and integration of personal voice in your professional roles
- Develop your skills working collaboratively with the larger helping community
Highlights of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship:
- Use of personally assigned reMarkable 2 tablet
- Two hours of weekly individual supervision, participation in weekly group supervision and team seminar hours.
- Professional development and therapeutic resources (e.g., books, audiobooks, testing materials, toys, etc.)
- One week of paid leave, two weeks of unpaid leave
- Support from a care coordinator
- Well furnished offices near Pacific Ocean beaches
Minimum Requirements- Psy.D. or Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program
- Completion of an APA or APPIC accredited predoctoral internship
- Experience or interest in working with adolescent psychotherapy patients
- Self-starter with openness to learning and personal growth

- Commitment to multicultural growth, self-reflection, and work with diverse populations
- Desire to learn and participate in the business of being in group practice
Additional Requirements and Program Description
Post-doctoral fellows are expected to work 40 hours per week. Over the course of the training year, 40% of these hours must be spent providing professional psychological services. At the beginning of the training year when fellows are not seeing as many patients, additional time is spent accomplishing administrative/marketing tasks, fellowship projects, professional development activities, etc. CTG supports time being spent studying for the EPPP.
The fellow will start the training year with a stipend of $58,000 for 40 hours per week (all qualifying for SPE hours toward licensure requirements). This constitutes a fellow’s base salary. For fellows in good standing, CTG seeks to increase post-doctoral income once caseloads are full. We do this through the use of our hybrid compensation model in the later months of the fellowship year, which is effectively a 40% fee split. Though this additional pay is not guaranteed, it is what we plan for and work toward.
The Coastal Therapy Group Post-Doctoral Fellowship program meets the California Board of Psychology licensure requirements for post-doctoral Supervised Professional Experience. https://www.psychology.ca.gov/
