At Balanced Awakening, we believe in doing psychotherapy—and clinical training—differently.
We are a psychologist-led boutique psychotherapy practice specializing in work with women, couples, and teen girls. While our clinicians bring diverse clinical interests, our practice has particular depth in somatic psychotherapy, Imago Relationship Therapy, maternal mental health, trauma recovery, and relationship-focused care.

About the Postdoctoral Residency
We’re seeking 2–3 Clinical or Counseling Psychology Postdoctoral Residents for the 2027–2028 training year. This is a full-time W-2 position designed to support both advanced clinical training and reflective professional development.
Residents typically build a caseload of approximately 25 client hours per week, with an additional 15 hours devoted to supervision, documentation, consultation, and professional development. Alongside a strong clinical foundation, residents are encouraged to deepen their clinical voice, cultivate areas of specialty, and develop a sustainable professional identity.

At Balanced Awakening, postdoctoral training is designed to prepare psychologists for long-term success in private practice. Our goal is for residents to graduate with deep clinical confidence, a strong professional identity, and the skills to build a fulfilling, sustainable private practice career.
Many of our trainees choose to continue practicing at Balanced Awakening after residency, making the program a meaningful pathway into long-term private practice while also preparing graduates for a wide range of professional opportunities.

- 2,000-hour postdoctoral residency—structured to meet licensure requirements in Illinois (and most other states for future mobility)

- Quarterly team meetings focused on connection, collaboration, and practice growth
- Hybrid work structure—see clients both virtually and in person (minimum one in-office day per week)
- Flexible scheduling—required availability for either 1 evening + Saturday morning or 3 evenings per week (early morning start options available if that fits you better)
Compensation & Benefits
- Percentage-based compensation model based on a percentage of revenue, typically ranging from $4,400–$7,200/month, with an average of $6,000/month once your caseload is full
- 3-month guaranteed income while your caseload builds
- Full benefits package, including:Health insurance (BCBS PPO – practice covers 50% of premium)401(k) with a 3% nonelective employer contribution
- Fully paid life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability (short-term disability can be used for maternity leave)
- Optional dental and vision insurance
- Paid time off includes:1 week of PTO, 1 week of sick time, 1 week of training-specific PTO to allow for focused continuing education or immersive retreats
