OVERVIEW

The Wellstar Health System’s neuropsychology team is pleased to initiate recruiting for 1 position in our 2-year residency in clinical neuropsychology.

· The new resident would join our senior resident for a total of 2 neuropsychology residents within our program; interactions with health psychology residents will also occur regularly.

· Our neuropsychology training team is composed of 9 clinical neuropsychologists (5 adult, 2 pediatric, 2 neurorehabilitation) including 7 board certified providers with more coming in the near future. Our team has been rapidly expanding in the past 5 years with colleagues who are highly invested in training.

· We foresee no barriers to fully implementing Minnesota Conference updates in our training.

· We are an APPCN member program and participate in the Match.

· Our goal is to produce highly competent, independently practicing neuropsychologists who are prepared to pursue ABPP certification and who we would feel confident working alongside as colleagues.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Strong training in adult outpatient assessment will be an emphasis given the training team’s specializations. Neurology is the referral source for a vast majority of patients. Neurodegenerative processes (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinsonian conditions, Frontal Temporal Lobe dementias) will be a focus. Pre-surgical services (DBS, selective laser ablation) as well as monitoring of Leqembi/Kisunla treatment are also included.

Residents will also have an opportunity to work on the Kennestone Hospital Campus, a Level 1 trauma center, within inpatient and outpatient neurorehabilitation settings with assessment and treatment components. Inpatient neurorehabilitation at North Fulton Hospital may also be an opportunity. The conditions addressed within neurorehabilitation include stroke, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s disease among others.

Training in pediatric outpatient assessment is available with our two pediatric neuropsychologists, depending on resident interest and prior experience.

Through our collaborations with the Wellstar Clinical Health Psychology Residency, additional training opportunities could be coordinated depending on supervisor availability and resident’s training goals.

Didactic and teaching opportunities include at least 2 hours each week of: • Neuropsychology didactics/case conferences • Neuroimaging seminar • Brain cutting observation • Professional development topics • Experiential excursions into the community with a DEI focus • Virtual grand rounds/seminars throughout the hospital system Consideration of DEI factors is incorporated throughout these didactics and our clinical supervision.

One clinically oriented research or program development project is also expected.
