Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Fellow position. A unique balance of clinical casework and research endeavors, the fellowship offers an opportunity to be a part of the multi-disciplinary teams within Psychiatry Outpatient Services for Adults (POSA) and the Brief Psychotherapy Research Program.
Within POSA, fellows carry an individual caseload, supervise psychology interns, externs, and/or psychiatry residents, and co-lead groups. Supervision, training, and cross-disciplinary consultation are an integral part of the fellowship, with supervisors being licensed psychologists or psychiatrists, many of whom hold academic appointments at Mount Sinai. Fellows are trained to master evidence-based therapies, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), and adapt them to the diverse client population.
Within the Brief Psychotherapy Research Program, fellows serve as program coordinators, supervising psychology extern activities, maintaining the workflow of the research program, and advancing alliance-focused research initiatives. Fellows develop an understanding of and receive supervision in Alliance-Focused Training (AFT) and are often co-supervisors in group supervision of psychology externs, interns, and psychiatry residents.
Depending on the fellow’s professional needs and interests, there are opportunities for elective clinical (e.g., implementing a new therapy group) and research (e.g., academic research projects leading to publications) experience. Further opportunities for professional development are abundant through grand rounds, continuing education opportunities, and via other Mount Sinai departments and the Icahn School of Medicine.
Qualifications: The candidate for the position must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology. Individuals with experience and/or an interest in psychotherapy process research are especially encouraged to apply. Clinical experience within hospital-based settings is also preferred. Mount Sinai’s commitment to diversity and helping the underserved contributes to a supportive and mission-focused training. We place a high degree of emphasis on fostering and encouraging a diverse community of faculty and students and on supporting research and practice that benefits our community; applicants who can contribute in this valued direction are particularly encouraged to apply.
