This position is assessment-focused and involves conducting psychological evaluations for youth who are involved in the Juvenile Justice System. The purpose of these evaluations vary, but might involve diagnostic clarification, determining level of intellectual functioning, making appropriate placement or treatment recommendations, or evaluating youth who are being considered for a waiver of the juvenile jurisdiction and possibly transferred into the adult criminal court system. Post-docs also conduct Fitness to Proceed (Competency to Stand Trial) evaluations and Lack of Responsibility (Criminal Responsibility/Insanity) evaluations conjointly with a licensed psychologist. Some evaluations are conducted with youth who are currently detained, while other evaluations are conducted with youth who are residing in the community, awaiting adjudication. The post-doctoral fellow will gain exposure to expert witness testimony via observation and possibly firsthand testimony regarding their cases. The post-doc also provides psychological consultation in multidisciplinary case staffings and has the opportunity to supervise pre-doctoral interns and practicum students.
We are excited to announce our Forensic Unit and Specialty Court postdoctoral training positions have been determined to meet the American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP) criteria for the experience waiver. ABFP offers waiver of the 5-year requirement for applicants who successfully complete an approved 2000-hour formal postdoctoral training program in forensic psychology.

- There are some opportunities to be involved in research related to the Juvenile Justice system, but these are rather limited. This is primarily a clinically focused post-doctoral experience.
