The Saint Elizabeths Hospital (SEH) Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship is a 12-month full-time experience, beginning on or about September 1 and ending on or about August 30 of each year, depending on correspondence with the government pay period. The Fellowship is 2000 hours and fulfills the requirements for licensure as a psychologist in the District of Columbia. The program offers an array of training experiences with a seriously mentally ill and forensically involved clinical population. Training experiences include direct clinical services (e.g., assessment, consultation, treatment), clinical supervision of psychology externs in assessment and therapy, and forensic didactics. Clinical services provided by Fellows will vary depending on the interests of the Fellow.
Fellows on the Forensic Track spend approximately 75% of their time involved in service delivery. The remaining 25% is spent in didactic seminars, supervision and supervision of supervision activities. The Fellowship structure includes major and minor rotations for the duration of the year. Trainees spend about 16-20 hours per week at their major rotation, and approximately 8-10 hours per week engaged in work for their minor rotation. Fellows on the Forensic Track join our Forensic Consultation Service. Fellows will have the opportunity to assess individuals (pre- and post-trial) for referral questions related to competency to stand trial, malingering, violence and sexual violence risk. Fellows may also have opportunities to conduct post-trial mental examinations and gain experience with criminal responsibility examinations, depending on availability of these assessments. There may also be opportunities to work off site with Forensic Consultation Service supervisors (e.g., at Superior Court, Forensic Outpatient Department), depending on Fellow interest and supervisor availability.
The Fellowship program at SEH is funded by and housed within the Department of Psychology, and Fellows are employees of Saint Elizabeths Hospital and members of the Psychologist's Union.
