Organization Description
Salud Family Health Centers is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with 13 clinics and a mobile unit dedicated to providing primary health services to all the residents of a defined catchment area, covering 9 counties in North-central and South-east of Colorado. The Salud system follows an integrated model of care that aims to ensure high-quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services to traditionally underserved populations, thus reducing barriers to care.
Fellowship Overview
The Fellowship is a one-year salary with benefits position in integrated primary care psychology. Postdocs function as an integral part of the health team, along with other Behavioral Health Providers, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, and graduate-level trainees. Throughout the fellowship, clinical supervision and training supplement the direct clinical experience. Additionally, there are various opportunities for teaching, research, and becoming involved in management and administration as they arise and are consistent with the postdoc’s interest. Satisfactory completion of the fellowship meets postdoctoral requirements for licensure in Colorado.
Direct Service Experiences
Postdocs spend 30-35 hours per week providing professional psychological services. Primary clinical activities include conducting behavioral health screenings and diagnostic assessments, providing consultation services and brief interventions as requested by primary care providers, and providing individual therapy. Besides, postdocs conduct psychological testing as requested by the treating team, including cognitive and personality. Postdocs provide supervision, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, to graduate practicum students, as available.
Training Curriculum
In addition to supervised direct patient contact, training opportunities include individual professional development supervision or/and group supervision. The training program offers a full curriculum in integrated care, substance use, psychopharmacology lectures, and cultural diversity discussions. Besides the psychologists, our faculty includes a clinical pharmacist, a physician, and clinical social work. During our seminars (only for advanced trainees), the postdoctoral fellow participates in training in the provision of supervision, integrated primary care focused on policy and advocacy, and professional development that includes guest speakers. The postdoctoral fellows will also have the opportunity to join a journal club of other postdoctoral fellows in the Denver Metro area. The training opportunities are focused on enhancing the postdocs existing skills and honing them to be applicable in the current healthcare system.
Project
Each postdoctoral fellow is required to complete a project, intended to serve as an opportunity to implement an independent effort, with the support of continued supervision. Projects are focused on program development, evaluation, and/or implementation.
