WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2024-2025 ACADEMIC YEAR.

The focus of our postdoctoral fellowship is to develop the professional and leadership skills psychologists need in their many roles within an academic medical setting. Upon completion of this program, fellows are ready to hit the ground running in their first professional positions. Each fellow takes ownership of a clinical specialty area (tracks are listed separately in UPPD), which involves a combination of direct clinical care, representing Behavioral Medicine on a multispecialty team and at interdisciplinary meetings, and leading efforts in clinical research or program development. Additional clinical and professional activities may be tailored to individual fellows' based on training needs and interests.

As this is a pivotal training year, all fellows participate in professional development seminars and case conferences and receive at least 2 hours of individual supervision per week. Fellows will also have the opportunity to teach psychiatry residents and practice supervision skills with doctoral psychology interns.

On the Behavioral Pain Management Track, fellows will have the opportunity to engage in clinical work at all levels of pain management within our system, from primary care-based interventions to specialty consultation in pain medicine, perioperative pain management, multidisciplinary clinics, and neurosurgery. Clinical pain management services include conducting initial assessments and evaluations, collaborating with patients to improve treatment readiness, adherence, and treatment planning/goals, providing evidence-based behavioral medicine treatment in individual and group formats, as well as leading psychoeducational lectures within various multidisciplinary clinics. Fellows also conduct evaluations on pre-surgical candidates within our own unique Destination Spine program and pain medicine for spinal cord stimulator implants.

Additional Comments
Founded more than 100 years ago by Abigail Geisinger, the system now includes ten hospital campuses, a 550,000-member health plan, two research centers and the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. With nearly 24,000 employees and more than 1,700 employed physicians, Geisinger boosts its hometown economies in Pennsylvania by billions of dollars annually. Geisinger is a large, physician-led hospital/Level-1 trauma center, which has been nationally recognized for innovative clinical programs and quality care. Geisinger Medical Center is located Danville, Pennsylvania, which is approximately a 3-hour drive from New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Baltimore and within 20-25 minutes of the charming college towns of Bloomsburg, Lewisburg, and Selinsgrove. Geisinger as a health system spans much of central Pennsylvania and given the system-wide expansion of our clinical programs, fellows will have the opportunity to serve other regions and diverse populations outside the main campus.
