Clinical Fellowship
Description: We are seeking a clinical psychology fellow to support clinical and research activities as part of Duke’s Integrated Pediatric Mental Health initiative and Duke Center for Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Half of the fellow’s time will be spent as part of an interdisciplinary team (social work, psychology, child psychiatry) that supports the Duke Children’s Evaluation Center (DCEC). The DCEC serves as the primary point of access for pediatric mental health services. As part of this team, the fellow will be involved in treatment planning and care coordination for children and families who are seeking clinical services. Several research opportunities are available, including involvement in ongoing quality improvement activities, community collaborations, and grant-writing efforts. Opportunities for involvement in the provision of assessment and individual, family, and group therapy, as well as peer clinical supervision also are offered. The remaining half of the fellow’s time will be spent providing direct clinical services in individuals who seek treatment at the Duke Center for Eating Disorders. Clinical responsibilities will include participating in an interdisciplinary, team-based treatment program at the Duke Center for Eating Disorders that is dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services to individuals with eating disorders (young childhood through late adulthood) and their families and supervising clinical psychology graduate students in training. Clinical formats include individual, group, and family-based treatments; diagnostic and preferably neuropsychological assessment experience, and prior training in empirically-validated behavioral (and ideally) somatic-focused treatments. Examples include cognitive behavior therapy, family-based treatments for adolescent eating disorder, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and interpersonal therapy. While our team contains an eclectic mix of training orientations (e.g. behavioral, psychodynamic, family systems), we all share a commitment to developing and implementing novel interventions for those with eating disorders routed in neurobiology and learning theory.
