Objective Rating of Internship Sites
This spreadsheet was devised as a quasi-objective tool to assist in rating and, in turn, ranking Predoctoral internship programs. It was conceptualized as a supplemental tool to inform other ranking methods employed by Predoctoral internship applicants. The spreadsheet can be utilized for any number of purposes: to determine the rank order for all sites under consideration, to determine the rank order for a particular site the applicant is unsure how to rank, to make finer rank order distinctions between two or more sites (i.e., 1 vs. 2, 3 vs. 4, etc.,) etc.
The spreadsheet computes a rating for each internship site under consideration based upon: (a) the criteria that are important to each applicant, (b) the relative importance of each individual criterion to the applicant, (c) and the grade assigned to each internship site based upon the criterion in question. The formula used to derive the ranking is simple and straightforward; it is equivalent to that of computing an academic grade point average. The spreadsheet is completely modifiable to suit the individual needs of each applicant. Additional instructions for modifying the spreadsheet can be found below the primary matrix. If you have any questions regarding the use of this spreadsheet, contact information has been provided at the bottom right of the matrix.
