(1) APPIC STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD

EXCELLENCE AWARDS:

The APPIC Board of Directors offers two annual Awards for Training Excellence. The two Awards provide recognition of distinguished achievement in training and teaching in APPIC Member internship and postdoctoral training settings. Outstanding accomplishment may be recognized in any one of three areas: internship training, postdoctoral training, or diversity training.

WHO CAN BE NOMINATED:

Nominees for one of the two APPIC Training Excellence Awards should be outstanding individual psychologists who demonstrate: [1] a history of excellence in innovative training & teaching in APPIC member internship and postdoctoral training programs, and/or [2] a history of administrative activities that support and advance innovative training and teaching in APPIC member programs.

Nominees must work at an APPIC Member training site. Any individual who makes outstanding contributions to training is eligible. Nominees do not have to be a Training Director. Any individual or group can submit nominations, but the nominator(s) must be faculty, staff member, administrator, Training Director, or trainee at an APPIC Member Internship or Postdoctoral training program. Self-nominations are not permitted.

NOMINATION PROCEDURES:

Nominations should be in the form of a letter no more than two pages in length. The nominating statement should be in the first sentence and clearly specify the specific training award for which recognition is sought. The two award categories are: [1] internship or postdoctoral training, or [2] diversity training. The nomination letter should provide the reasons and information that supports the nomination. Letters that request recognition for MORE than ONE award will not be reviewed.

The nominating statement should be sent as an e-mail attachment (MS Word or PDF). Nominators should inform the nominee that his or her name is being submitted. An electronic copy of the nominee's CV must also be submitted, and should be sent as an e-mail attachment.

SELECTION OF AWARD WINNERS:

The APPIC Training Awards Committee reviews the nominations and then makes recommendations to the APPIC Board of Directors. The Board of Directors makes the final decisions.

Faculty, staff members, administrators, or trainees (current or former) at APPIC member sites are encouraged to submit nominations. The Awards Committee may keep applications for up to three years to review for selection in subsequent years. The three awards are presented at the APPIC Business Meeting held at the APA Annual Conference. Each winner receives a plaque, a check for $500, and an award citation to be published in the APPIC Newsletter.

APPIC STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD:

APPIC is proud to announce the annual APPIC STUDENT RESEACH AWARD to encourage and support supervision and training research. APPIC will award $500.00 to the recipient. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge the contributions interns and postdoctoral fellows make to the supervision and training literature.

Nominations procedure:

Any APPIC member or subscriber training director may nominate a current intern/post-doctoral fellow who is conducting or has completed research in the area of supervision and training.

Nominations are submitted via e-mail. The nominator should include an abstract of the nominated research, written by the trainee. This abstract must be no longer than 500 words in length and should highlight the training implications and utility of the research project. Abstracts exceeding 500 words will not be considered for the award.

Review process:

Members of the APPIC Research Committee review the nominations and make a recommendation to the APPIC Board of Directors. The APPIC Board of Directors makes the final decision.

Awarding the Award:

The APPIC Research Award is awarded during the APPIC Business meeting at the annual APA Convention.

Although we welcome the attendance of the recipient of this award, there is no requirement that the winner be present to accept the award. If not in attendance, APPIC will mail the award to the recipient.
