Program Description
Program Description:
ECC and EFI are dedicated to providing excellence in Christian psychological and counseling services. The agency utilizes empirically-supported treatments and trains interns in the use of many therapy modalities. Clinical staff are largely cognitive behavioral in orientation and draw from standard theoretical orientations such as experiential and family systems as appropriate. Specialized training in PCIT, floor-time, DBT, and marriage/family therapy will be available. Assessment and treatment of children and adolescents comprises the majority of clinical experience with EFI. Interns are also trained in premarital counseling using PREPARE/ENRICH.

Interns will rotate in supervision every 4 months to gain exposure to different styles of therapy and will administer psychological testing for their primary supervisor. Interns will be assigned to one of a couple locations in the Hampton Roads area on a rotating schedule.

In addition to on-site training, off-site training is made available to the interns at Regent University, an APA-accredited Psy.D. program, is located just 10 minutes from ECC and offers monthly Colloquia with renowned speakers from across the country. Additionally, Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center also hosts monthly trainings by area clinicians on a variety of topics. Pre-doctoral interns will attend both the Colloquia and trainings as part of their didactic experience. Interns are encouraged to participate in and develop outcome research, and to present on program or therapeutic efficacy or in other areas of specialty that would enrich professional and corporate growth.
