Program Description
Program Description:
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine offers clinical and research fellowships.

Clinical fellowships are available in one of five areas: 1) the Psychosocial Treatment Clinic offers training in evidence-based assessment and treatment of adults with anxiety, mood disorders, eating disorders, interpersonal problems, personality disorders, and couple and family therapy; 2) the Sleep Medicine Program offers training in non-pharmacological treatments of sleep disorders; 3) the Pain Medicine Clinic offers training in the assessment and treatment of pain disorders; 4) the Child Psychiatry Clinic offers training the assessment and treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, PDD, disruptive behaviors, and eating disorders for children and adolescents; and 5) the Pediatric Psychology Program offers training in the assessment and treatment of children with medical illnesses. Clinical fellows spend 50% time in direct clinical activity, with the balance in supervision, case conferences, and seminars. Extensive individual and group supervision is available. Training is designed to promote professional development and prepare fellows for independent practice as psychologists. Clinical fellowship appointments are full-time for 1 year.

NIMH-funded research fellowships are for 2-3 years. Research opportunities for NIMH fellows are in depression, anxiety, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and developmental psychopathology. NIMH fellows spend at least 80% of their time in research-related activities with one primary faculty mentor and spend 4-6 hours per week in direct patient care and supervision. NIMH fellowships are also open to MDs.

Our fellowships are open to PhDs and PsyDs from APA- or CPA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology programs, who have completed APA- or CPA-accredited internships. Completion of this fellowship meets all requirements for California state licensure as a psychologist.
