| Program Description |
Program Description:
Based on a Practitioner Scholar model, our program's core training components are assessment, treatment and consultation liaison. Interns also participate in one of three year-long specialized training tracks; the Pediatric Health Track, the Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy Track, or the Neuropsychology Track. The Pediatric Health Track consists of two six-month rotations: the Developmental Disabilities Rotation and the Developmental Evaluation and Intervention Program. The goal of the Developmental Disabilities Rotation is to provide interns with basic knowledge in evaluation and intervention with infants, children and adolescents. Children with major behavioral/developmental disorders are assessed and treated. The Developmental Evaluation and Intervention Program rotation provides training in the developmental assessment of infants and children exposed to multiple medical and socio-economic risk factors. Children who are diagnosed with or at risk for mental retardation, developmental delay, and emotional problems are assessed by a multidisciplinary team. The Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy Track functions in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry. Interns refine their skills at conducting initial assessments for history and mental status and in providing individual psychotherapy, group therapy and family therapy. On the Inpatient Service, interns are provided opportunities in crisis stabilization and management of the suicidal patient, and work with patients who have experienced physical, sexual and emotional trauma or neglect. With respect to the Neuropsychology Track, the Psychology Internship Program, in association with the Department of Neurology, provides neuropsychological services for inpatients and outpatients. This service offers state-of-the-art neuropsychological evaluations focused on children with neurological conditions and/or other medical disorders that affect brain functioning resulting in behavioral and cognitive alterations. |
