Program Description
Program Description:
As the oldest private psychiatric hospital in the Unitied States, Friends Hospital has been committed to providing compassionate clinical care and creating a friendly and collegial environment for professionals for two centuries. Today, the hospital serves an economically, culturally, and diagnostically diverse population of individuals form Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Recovery principles and Trauma-Informed care are at the core of Friends Hospital's commitment to mental health treatment. Our internship program in Clinical Psychology utilizes a Practitioner-Scholar model, with a strong emphasis on applying empirically-supported principles of treatment in an acute inpatient setting. The training program is grounded in cognitive and behavioral models. Throughout the course of the training year, interns participate in two major clinical rotations, which may include the adolescent unit, older adult unit, or intensive adult unit (for more acute mental illness), as well as several general adult units. Additional clinical experiences are available in our Crisis Response Center (a psychiatric ER) and the Greystone Program (a long-term community residence for chronically mentally ill individuals). Interns gain experience providing supervision while working with psychology practicum students in the hospital's externship program. Psychological assessment is an important part of the clinical training program, and interns complete 4 integrated assessment batteries and several brief screenings. Interns receive weekly individual and group supervision, and attend regular didactic trainings provided by various speakers from within and outside of the hospital. Overall, Friends Hospital offers a large variety of clinical and professional training opportunities, and is committed to assisting interns in meeting their individual training needs. Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of academic training and 1400 total hours (testing, interv., & support) of experience.
