Program Description
Program Description:
Wright-Patterson Medical Center is a scientist-practitioner program offering world class training in a collegial environment.

Extensive training and experience in the delivery of empirically based assessment and treatment methods. Required core rotations in outpatient mental health, clinical health psychology, neuropsychology and integrated primary care. Mini rotations in post-traumatic stress disorder/TBI, deployment psychology, substance abuse/domestic violence prevention and treatment, organizational consultation, leadership, personnel selection, virtual reality assisted treatment. Option to obtain biofeedback certification.

Three hours/week of individual supervision augmented by a robust program of didactics, case conferences, group supervision and journal clubs.

Our program curriculum centers on providing activities which integrate the science and practice of psychology to the unique needs of patients of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and ages. Development of advanced knowledge and skill in cognitive-behavioral therapy is strongly emphasized as a means of accomplishing this. Since our program graduates begin their professional careers as Air Force psychologists, we train them to function competently and comfortably as consultants within military and interdisciplinary medical environments.

Our program strives to prepare outstanding psychologists who advance the Air Force mission by caring for the mental health needs of its most valuable asset: our service members, their spouses and children, and our retired population and their family members. The Wright-Patterson graduate is trained as a generalist, with a broad exposure to future potential duties. Our program is further enhanced by ongoing interdisciplinary clinical and educational collaboration with our Psychiatry and Social Work residents, whose training is supported within one of the AF's largest Mental Health departments.
