Program Description
Program Description:
Malcolm Grow Medical Center (MGMC) is a scientist-practitioner program offering exceptional training and unparalleled benefits.

Extensive training and experience is provided in empirically based assessment and intervention methods with required rotations in adult outpatient mental health, clinical health psychology, primary care integration, basic neuropsychological assessment, and substance abuse. Interns also gain experience in emergency on-call consultation and complete two elective rotations including options such as biofeedback, advanced neuropsychology, forensic psychology, personnel selection, virtual reality assisted treatment, research, and dedicated dissertation work time (required if dissertation is not completed).

Extensive supervision is augmented by weekly didactics, case conferences, journal clubs and several 1-2 day workshops conducted by nationally recognized experts (see internship brochure for list of previous experts).

MGMC trains generalists to conceptualize problems from a biopsychosocial perspective and solve them utilizing scientific thinking. An overarching vision of our program is to transition interns from students to autonomous professionals. We emphasize competencies in the efficient (short-term, cost-effective, high quality) delivery of clinical services to our base population. In addition, interns gain an extensive understanding of military and deployment related psychology. All interns' clinical and consultation services support a broad range of military patients and beneficiaries, health professionals, units and the community. The military provides a rich exposure to people and patients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrouds, further enhancing the training experience.

Interns begin active duty service at the rank of Captain and have a 3 year post-internship commitment (a guaranteed job with moving costs paid!) in which they continue to develop as professionals and officers and receive annual pay increases.
