| Program Description |
Program Description:
The goal of the fellowship is to prepare trainees for professional psychology practice at an advanced level of competence in Clinical Psychology. Tracks that emphasize Psychosocial Rehabilitation or Post Traumatic Stress Disorders are offered. One fellow in PTSD and one or more fellows in PSR are chosen each year through a competitive application and interview process. The fellowship training experiences include required elements based on the chosen area of emphasis as well as options based on the learning and training goals of each fellow, whether clinical, research and scholarship, or other areas of professional development. The PSR fellowship involves ongoing work with fellows of other disciplines.
The strength of this fellowship lies in the diversity of opportunities available, the supportive stance of staff toward fellows and the rich clinical environment. The philosophy of training reflects a basic belief that postdoctoral education and training is primarily experiential in nature and for the primary purpose of learning through supervised service delivery. The fellowship strives to provide exemplary postdoctoral training consistent with a practitioner-scholar model.
While fellowship duties focus on direct service in a variety of clinical settings, strong didactic and supervisory experiences, conduct of supervision and professional development activities are an integral component. The fellowship offers the opportunity to work in a professional and scholarly community to establish a more integrated professional identity. Throughout all aspects of the program, an emphasis is placed on ethical and legal considerations, individual and cultural diversity, evidence-based practice and professionalism. Considerable attention is paid to the professional development of the fellow as a psychotherapist, diagnostician, consultant, clinical scholar, supervisor, educator, program innovator and evaluator, interdisciplinary team member and consumer advocate.
