| Program Description |
Program Description:
The Central Valley Program is a comprehensive postdoctoral psychology residency program that is well-integrated into the Kaiser Permanente health care system. A total of 3 Clinical Psychology Residents are placed in the Departments of Adult or Child Psychiatry in the Sacramento area. Location is either South Sacramento or Elk Grove-1 Child and 2 Adult residents. 40hrs a week is required over the 12-month residency period. Half of the resident's time is spent providing direct services to client through individual, group, family, or couple therapy and conducting psychological assessments. In addition to the required two hours of individual supervision weekly by a licensed psychologist, residents also participate in two hours of group supervision, case conferences, research projects, team meetings, and weekly seminars. Staff psychologists possess a wide range of specialties including Pain Management, Eating Disorders, Cultural Issues, Women's Health, Biofeedback, Health Psychology, Mood Disorders, ADHD, Family Systems, Autism.
The patient population consists of Kaiser Health Plan members possessing prepaid psychiatric benefits and also Medi-Cal clientele (South Sacramento). Our members consist of a wide spectrum of lower to middle/working class adults, families, couples, and children. The patient population is ethnically diverse and exhibits a wide array of psychological, medical and chemical dependency problems.
The Central Sacramento Valley Region encompasses the cultural and geographic heart of Northern California with the richly diverse urban area of the Sacramento metropolitan area. It was named the most ethnically and culturally diverse city in the United States by Time Magazine in 2002.
The Pacific Ocean, the famous Napa/Sonoma wine country, and San Francisco are all a short 2 hour drive away. The Sierra Nevada Mountains and Lake Tahoe only 90 minutes and Yosemite National Park and Monterey are 3 hours away. |
