This page provides information on resources for booking discounted travel. A few of the companies listed have agreed to provide APPIC with special discounts; many others are simply resources that applicants have told us are useful to them in getting the lowest air, hotel, and car rental rates. Please note that all of the travel resources listed on this page may be used by anyone and are valid for both professional and personal travel.
While APPIC does receive commissions for the travel booked through some of the links below, all commission money received will be specifically earmarked for projects that directly benefit students (e.g., APPIC student research awards). These commissions will NOT increase the cost of your travel. Thus, we encourage you to return to this page and to use the links below each time you wish to book travel, rather than going directly to the travel sites themselves.
Below is a summary of the discounts available from each company, along with instructions for making reservations. This information will be updated periodically as new discounts and offers become available.
All offers are subject to restrictions and availability, and may be subject to additional conditions that are not listed below. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO CHECK AROUND FOR THE BEST FARES, as these negotiated discounts may or may not be the lowest fares available for your itinerary.

Priceline.com is a service that allows you to "Name your own price" for discounted airfares, hotel rooms, and rental cars. While the discounts can be substantial, you should carefully read the rules, guidelines and restrictions that are posted on the Priceline.com web site (e.g., for discounted air fares, you cannot control the time of day that you travel nor the airline on which you fly; accepted bids are immediately charged to your credit card and are non-cancelable).

- Hotwire.com is a service that provides discounts on airfares, hotel rooms, and rental cars. It differs from Priceline in that it shows you the discounted price in advance, rather than requiring you to make a bid. While the discounts can be substantial, you should carefully read the rules, guidelines, and restrictions that are posted on the Hotwire.com web site (e.g., for discounted air fares, you cannot control the time of day that you travel nor the airline on which you fly).

- These airlines tend to have extremely low fares that are often available only through each airline's web site (i.e., their fares may not be shown at Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.).
- These are comprehensive travel sites that include air, hotel, and rental car information.
- Applicant feedback: (1) Orbitz is particularly good for booking lower-priced itineraries that combine flights from more than one airline. (2) You can save money booking multi-city trips (visiting two or more destinations before returning home) rather than booking several round-trips.
- This is a "travel search engine" that allows you to simultaneously search hundreds of travel sites (e.g., Orbitz, consolidators, and sites of airlines, hotels, and rental car companies) for low air, hotel, and car rental prices.
- This site provides up-to-date information on travel discounts and specials.
- Hotels.com offers discount accommodations in more than 12,500 properties in over 400 major destinations. Applicant feedback suggests that this site can provide good discounts, but sometimes better rates are available elsewhere.
- Air fares available only to students and faculty. Applicant feedback suggests that fares can be excellent, but sometimes much better fares are available elsewhere.
OTHER
- Applicants have suggested using a AAA (American Automobile Association) card or their APA Membership for discounts.
- Some have suggested purchasing an Entertainment Book, which contains some options for discounted travel.
