APPIC Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service
Policies for Non-APPIC Member Internship Programs
This page summarizes
the relevant APPIC policies related to the participation in the APPIC Match and
Post-Match Vacancy Service by sites that are not APPIC members, and provides additional information
that non-member sites may find helpful.
Please Note: Non-member sites that participate in the APPIC Match are required to use APPIC's AAPI Online, a centralized application service that enables applicants to submit standardized applications to internship programs electronically. Additional information about AAPI Online is provided below.
Two-Year Participation Limit for Non-Members
In general, due to the APPIC Board's commitment
to assuring that internships participating in the Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service are of high quality, internship
programs that participate in the APPIC Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service must meet APPIC membership criteria
and be members of APPIC. However, the Board has provided non-APPIC member programs
with a grace period, allowing them to participate in the Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service for a limited time
while in the process of becoming members.
Thus, internship programs that
are not APPIC members may participate in the APPIC Match and/or Post-Match Vacancy Service
for a maximum of two years as non-members (this two-year limitation
does not apply to non-member programs that are members of CCPPP, the Canadian
Council of Programs in Professional Psychology). Participation in the APPIC Match
and/or the Post-Match Vacancy Service within the same selection year constitutes one
year of participation.
After two years of participation, non-APPIC member
programs that are not members of CCPPP may not participate in future APPIC Matches or use the Post-Match Vacancy Service unless they submit an application for APPIC membership during the fall membership cycle, as described below. This exception to the two-year limitation may only be used once by a site.
If Your Site Has NOT Reached the Two-Year Limit
If your site has not reached the two-year limit, your site is eligible
to participate in the 2012 APPIC Match. The current fee for non-APPIC members
to participate in the APPIC Match is $240 US per year. This fee is non-refundable,
and must be paid to National Matching Services Inc. for your site to be enrolled in the Match.
Your site is also eligible to participate in the
2012 APPIC Post-Match Vacancy Service, if needed. If your site registers for the Match, you
may also participate in the Post-Match Vacancy Service at no additional charge. If your site
does not register for the Match, the fee for participation in the Post-Match Vacancy Service
is $240 US, which must be submitted to APPIC prior to your participation in the
Post-Match Vacancy Service.
If Your Site HAS Reached the Two-Year Limit
If your site has reached the two-year limit, your site is not eligible to participate in the 2012 APPIC Match or Post-Match Vacancy Service unless your site submits a completed APPIC membership application (along with the appropriate membership application fee) no later than September 1, 2011. In other words, the two-year limitation on Match and Post-Match Vacancy Service participation will be waived for sites that apply for APPIC membership during the fall membership cycle.
Note: The waiver of the two-year limit for membership applicants will be available to a site only once. A site that has participated in the Match as a non-member for three years will not be permitted to participate in the Match for a fourth time as a non-member.
For Sites That Plan to Apply for APPIC Membership By September 1, 2011
If you apply for APPIC membership during the fall membership cycle (i.e., by September 1, 2011), and your site has not participated in the Match or Post-Match Vacancy Service for three years as a non-member, APPIC policies require you to register for and participate in the 2012 APPIC Match and to accept internship applications via the AAPI Online service (see below). To register for the Match you must submit to National Matching Services an agreement to participate in the Match along with the non-refundable Match fee of $240 US. Please note that the membership application fee paid to APPIC is separate from the fee you are required to pay to register for the Match.
For ALL Non-Member Sites That Participate in the Match or Post-Match Vacancy Service
You
must inform applicants that your program is not an APPIC Member. Furthermore,
any communication to applicants about your program's intentions to apply for APPIC
membership, or about the status of a membership application that has been submitted
but not yet approved, must include the provision that there is no guarantee that
the program will ultimately be successful in attaining APPIC membership.
Please
note that participating in the APPIC Match as a non-member does not provide effective
advertising for your internship program. You will not be listed in the APPIC Directory,
as such listings are reserved for APPIC Members. Furthermore, while you will be
listed in the List of Participating Programs on the National Matching Services
web site, most applicants do not use this list to identify programs of interest.
Thus, you will need to use other methods of advertising to let potential applicants
know about your program.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Non-member sites that participate in the APPIC Match are required to use APPIC's AAPI Online service. The AAPI Online is a centralized application service that allows applicants to complete a standardized internship application and to submit their applications to internship programs electronically via the internet. As an APPIC Match participant, you are required to accept applications via the AAPI Online, and there is no additional fee to you to use that service (other than the $240 non-member Match fee described above). Information about the AAPI Online is available on the APPIC web site at www.appic.org.

use filtering, you should instruct it to accept all e-mail from APPIC's e-mail
