Updated Call for Presentation Proposals
The Conference Program and Planning Committees have issued an updated call for proposals to present at the conference. Persons who would like to present should use the official Submission Form. A wide range of presentation formats will be used, including invited addresses, panel discussions, paper sessions on specific topics, informal all-to-all discussion groups, and poster sessions. The goal is to encourage exchange of ideas. Presentations may be data, theory, or experience based. The focus will be on thoughtful discussions about good training practices and support for training programs.
The APPIC Membership Conference will feature several distinguished invited speakers. Based on feedback from participants at the highly successful 2001 APPIC New Orleans conference, presenters will be given more time to speak and develop their ideas. There will be fewer presenters per session.
Submissions will be reviewed by the Program Committee, which encourages broad participation and tries to accommodate as many presenters as possible. There are still openings in the program, and so the submission deadline has been extended to February 3, 2003. Persons submitting proposals will be notified about the status of their submission by the second week in February 2003.

Planned sessions include topics such as: Competency Models of Training - Follow-up on 2002 Competencies Conference; Culture and Diversity; Government Funding for Training; Quality of Supervision; Postdoctoral Training Issues; Recruitment and Selection of Trainees; Impact of Marketplace on Training; Ethics and Professional Development; APA Accreditation Issues; Training in Canada; Evaluating Intern Performance; Advocacy Training Curricula; Non-Traditional Training Environments - Consortia, Rural Settings, & Part-time Internships; Training for Managerial & Administrative Roles; Licensure and Training; and more.
The Workshop for New Training Directors is ideally suited for persons new to training. There will be sessions in which colleagues from similar settings meet and dialogue about specialized training issues unique to their setting, e.g., university counseling centers, VA Medical Centers, medical schools, consortia, postdoctoral training programs, state hospitals and community mental health centers, and more.
Members of the APA Committee on Accreditation will present two pre-conference workshops. Attendance is free but is restricted to registered APPIC conference attendees. The first APA workshop provides training to conference participants who wish to qualify as APA accreditation site visitors, or who wish to hone their skills as site visitors. It is an all day workshop with 7 Continuing Education credits. The second APA workshop provides training to Internship and Postdoctoral Training Directors who seek to obtain first time APA accreditation or renewal of APA accreditation for their training programs. You must register in advance to take either of these APA Pre-Conference Workshops. You may download a copy of the APA Pre-Conference Workshop Registration Form at the conference web page and submit it directly to the APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation.
APPIC is approved by the APA to offer Continuing Education Credits for psychologists.
